The second formula 2 sprint of this season just finished and wow what a race. With tons of fights, overtakes, action and safety cars it was a thrilling race until the last seconds.
The sprint started with a few cars not being able to start and a few others having contact which caused the first three laps of the race to be under yellow flags. One of the cars that struggled was Antonelli also coming into contact withCrawford, causing both of them to loose quite a few positions but they made those up again quickly. During lap 1 the first safety car was employed and the ART Grand Prix driver Martins had to retire because he had severe contact. The other two drivers that were forced to retire were Colapinto and O’Sullivan. The rookie Paul Aron who was leading the race initiated the restart after the safety car ended but Verschoor stayed close, finally overtaking him during lap 8.
During lap 10 Hauger who started on p4 made his way onto the podium by overtaking Red Bull Junior Hadjar who was on p3 till then.
the second safety car was employed shortly after because Hitech driver Cordeel spun his car in the middle of a corner. He also had to retire.
During lap 15 Crawford finally made a move on Maloney and overtook him easily. They stayed close together and in lap 16 finally Maloney fought to get his position back leading to a gripping fight between the two f2 drivers. Maloney claimed himself the position and made up even more finishing the race on p4 up 11 Positions from where he started.
In the same lap a virtual safety car had to be employed to remove a carbonfibre part of Correas car which clipped the wall. The Ecuadorean lost the end plate of his front wing and retired as well.
Three laps before the race ended Hauger made his move on Aron, claiming himself the second position on the podium. Even though Aron kept fighting hard to take his position back, he did not manage to do so.
The race ended with Verschoor taking the highest spot on the podium, causing us to hear the well known Dutch national anthem in formula 2 too. Later on His win was withdrawn because a part of the car was not in compliance with the technical regulations. Hauger therefore was promoted to p1 and Aron to p2. Fittipaldi finished on 3rd, Maloney on 4th, Crawford on 5th, Antonelli on 6th and Marti on 7th.
The race included a lot of gripping action which is fortunately never missing in formula 2. Now we go right into the f1 qualifying. Let’s see what the kings class of drivers will show us today.
